Insurance

Intangibles are the new assets

It doesn’t matter how much you have, but what you want to do.

The culture of ownership is giving way to the society of use. The responsibility in conflicts should not necessarily be settled between individuals or legal entities but between individuals and non-individuals… The legality of Things poses a different level of rights and obligations.

  • A change in the orientation of insurance coverage has been detected: from insuring the ownership of things to insuring the use of things.
  • The same good or product may be used regularly by different people, which means that the insurance does not focus on the risk coverage of that good or service but rather generates multiple and personalized coverage. For example, a car does not have a single insurance policy in the name of an owner. Still, rather personalized insurance policies are taken out according to the use of the car by the different members of the family that use it.
  • Considering the high geographic mobility of people and professionals, just-in-time insurances are beginning to appear. Insurance coverage is automatically adapted to where the person is at the time and is in force under certain conditions for as long as the person is there.
  • Insurance policies whose coverage and economic conditions are recalculated based on biometric parameters monitored by smartphones or wearables (smart watches or biometric bracelets) are also beginning to emerge.

… and three good questions.

Is there any point in life-long insurance models when everything is becoming more and more transient and cyclical?

Will we accept that our data is permanently circulating on the Net so that different companies and organizations can evaluate our risk profiles?

What are the areas of opportunity for new business models emerging in this new paradigm?

Shall we talk?
